Sonnet Mondal, 10/12

Time in front of the Bore Hole

Foothold falters near the
borehole hiding
a hysterical cloud of armed citizen.

Ashes of inspiring forerunners
still hot in valour
cleared by moving spades
break the dam of toleration
of wives and children
into traumatic sobs.

The borehole unleashes the beasts
inside thousand men
squeezing outside reform and
run as wolves in a land barren
of other creatures.

Ages pass by
and they feed on each other
(death just an accident)

with relatives lying in one heap
and borehole blowing fire
to create another lot of ashes

for my feet to tremble
and labour clearing another era.

Iran 1980

Forgotten martyrs of war
crushed under repeated strikes
lay frozen behind the photo
of Iran 1980…

Behind the Iranian emblem
of Khorramshahr
carnivorous tanks
like a spitting cobra
shoot out venom to
mark the doom of another empire.

Evolution paused by a bullet rain
unleashes the midnight shiver
to crawl, brawl and ruin
genders without discrimination.

The meaning of celebration
was occasional smiles
featuring burnt teeth
exposing blackened tongue
which can no more crack jokes
but scream
in rivalry with roaring fires.

A rough picture caves in history
like scavengers eating inside the motionless
backdrop of a vain triumph.
