“Poet Laureate Of A Dirty Garage”<\/em> by Wayne Mason, erbacce-press, 2009.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Wayne Mason has been lauded as a working man<\/span>\u2019s poet and that is clearly defined in this collection of poems<\/span> published by erbacce-press.\u00a0 <\/span>Poet Laureate Of A Dirty Garage<\/em> is equal parts blue collar factory man, lone writer, and side-car Buddhist.<\/span><\/p>\n

He is at his best in the poems \u201cDefeated On Monday Morning\u201d, \u201cPoet Laureate of My Garage\u201d, \u201cMartyrs\u201d, and \u201cSwing Your Pen Like A Hammer And Sickle<\/span>\u201d.\u00a0 <\/span>Wayne understands the essence of the common man and how hard it is to find glimmers of hope amongst the day to day plodding movements of punching the clock.\u00a0 <\/span>He explores the idea that his words can chip away at this monotony, but that they might not save any lives from the factory\u2026.except his own.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Wayne grazes over images of Buddha in this collection, but does not dig very deep though his fascination is noted.\u00a0 <\/span>The recurrent mention of Buddha<\/span> speaks to \u201cwhat if\u201d there is something more than this continuous factory life that maybe something exists beyond the things that might make life so hard.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My favorite poem in this 18 poem collection is \u201cDreaming of Han Shan\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was only 16<\/span><\/p>\n

when I read the <\/span><\/p>\n

cold mountain<\/span><\/p>\n

poems of <\/span><\/p>\n

Han Shan and<\/span><\/p>\n

the simplicity<\/span><\/p>\n

like Chinese<\/span><\/p>\n

brush strokes<\/span><\/p>\n

on rice paper<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

kicked me<\/span><\/p>\n

in the gut<\/span><\/p>\n

and more<\/span><\/p>\n

than ever I<\/span><\/p>\n

saw the truth\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
