1.
all these things that are done
lying dust-trodden long ago
atom words and other things
other places
there was a place too
broken shopping carts
rust eaten chrome falling away
puddles, dirt alley
weeds green
hyper green against wet sand
grass not yet blooming
broken computers yellowing in the light
always a flame
oh, it was soft
cut up and cut to pieces
put back together
alone
dripping, dribbling stones
like water down a hillside
things that pass as dreams
or honey bees
all these falling falling things
stars
and stars fall
hallelujah
stars and fools walking by the edge of the sea
we saw all those things
trees sparking light
bridges
temples lost there in forests
hidden ways
faerie paths traced out in sun
spilling into shadow
spilling down and over
fallen cedar needles
and laying over branches
where elk and other things walk
as the edge of night draws near
edge before night
edge before dawn
edge before the highway
a strong wind blows
over a small lake
the wind is blowing the water
and spiderwebs
travelling webs of the newly-hatched
catching the falling sunlight
streamers of silk
from willow branches
and last summer’s cattails
bees in the willows
make the trees hum
geese and new goslings
ducks and seagulls
black birds
cloud white moon
blue sky
sun on the trees still
leafless in the end
of winter. they were
like fires. grey
fires catching the light
of the setting
sun’s rays
the white bark
rising above the
shadowed swamp
where the old dead
rushes from last
year lie in
waves of frozen
wind
single column bending
over fields plowed down
over straw stubble
sunset in a grey haze
smoke drifts slowly
