I Am a Heavy Man
.
I am a heavy man
The wooden floors
Of old homes
Nag at me when
I walk across them
Chairs grunt when I sit
And if they’re cushioned
I leave them compressed
When I lean my shoulder
Against a bookshelf
Volumes topple and flutter
Like pigeons to the floor
My voice is heavy too
Even thicker walls
Sometimes tremble
When I laugh
Or tell a story
As if a train
Were passing by
