Justin Wade Thompson

begging for blood

the night started
with me
bleeding from my stomach
and shaving my belly button
so I could apply
a bandage

the night crops begged for water
as the dogs howl and    whimpered
under the street light    running out
of cool days in the breeze
to suffer only from
headaches

and boredom

I kept pressure on to
keep the blood    from flowing

……a woman in my bed, sitting
slouched
with a round brown belly
itching her breasts
at chapped brown nipples
……and smiling over my blackheads
with
the blunt end of
a pair of tweezers

the dogs still begging for blood
to bloom into something
human

in daylight

the night ended with a brief argument
and sweat
pooling at the
back of my neck.
