2 AM Laughing Gas<\/strong><\/p>\n

There was a period of sunken eyes
\nin between the syndicated after
\nmidnight repeats
\nand dreary anthologized suicide
\nnotes by award-winning unknowns<\/p>\n

then the giddiness
\ncomes from out of the ether
\njumping jacks of
\nthought buzzards
\nbehind our
\ntired eyes
\nand before you know it
\nI\u2019m a grimy vaudevillian
\nphotographing my bare
\nfoot next to a twelve hours-old
\nbowl of cat food
\na moment of comic treasure
\nthat will never be
\nlaughable again<\/p>\n

the cat himself is roped into
\ndancing to our marionette whimsies
\nbefore being discarded in
\nstained landfills of laundry
\nhe knows already that
\ntomorrow will be shot to hell<\/p>\n

comatose for another
\nphantom-spiders-on-the-elbows
\ndaytime doom marathon
\nto the next midnight oasis
\nshaking driblets of saliva on
\nthe crusted unmade sheets
\nW.C. Fields stands over us
\nflattened on the wall,
\nbloated in black and white
\nand long dead,
\nreduced to ash and deposited
\nin the slumber castle for
\nthe rich-and-famous
\nhis deflated bulbous nose flinching
\nat us like the start of a nickelodeon
\nin our sleep-deprived hallucinations<\/p>\n

and the cat seizes his chance
\npouncing from the crumpled
\nnewspaper fort to have his
\nway with his battered clown
\nowners whispering jokes
\nin the curls of his faint purrs
\nthat no one but him understands.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
