Creative Poetry 101<\/strong><\/p>\n

a friend of mine
\nthinks highly of my stuff
\nhe tells me
\nonce I get it out there
\na couple of collections under my belt
\nI could be a visiting professor
\nat a university
\nteach creative poetry
\nstand there
\ntalk about Frost
\nPoe
\nand Dickinson
\nI could use obscure words
\nlike enjambment
\nconcupiscient
\nand wow the students
\nwith my vocabulary
\nluckily for them
\nI\u2019m not washed up yet
\nand I don\u2019t care about money
\nso it\u2019ll be a while
\nbefore I fuck up their poetry<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Dare<\/strong><\/p>\n

frozen
\nin a cloud
\nof soft snow
\nstaring at a pole
\nscared
\nuncertain
\nthe wind howled
\na double dog dare
\nbefore he could react
\na triple dog dare
\nturned the cocoons
\nin his stomach to butterflies
\nhe put out his tongue
\nand leaned forward
\nstuck to the pole
\nand no matter
\nhow hard he tried
\ncouldn\u2019t free himself
\nfrom love<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Adrift<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n
\n
I sharpen the blades<\/div>\n
on the steel surrounding my heart<\/div>\n
hoping<\/div>\n
to cut out the feeling of loss<\/div>\n
the sun reflects off of the ocean<\/div>\n
in a glimmer of memories<\/div>\n
as we lay her to rest<\/div>\n
I watch her<\/div>\n
adrift<\/div>\n
in the bay<\/div>\n
it slowly swallows her<\/div>\n
along with the pain<\/div>\n
not only hers<\/div>\n
but mine as well<\/div>\n
finally<\/div>\n
she is at peace<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
