If It Was You<\/strong><\/p>\n

If it was you,
\nyou looked slimmer.<\/p>\n

Why were you
\nall prettied-up
\nat the store
\nwhere we bought
\nextra bed sheets
\nthat one time?<\/p>\n

We couldn’t
\nstay friends,
\ncould we?<\/p>\n

I was there for shoes.<\/p>\n

I was there with you
\njust that one time
\n(and every time since).<\/p>\n

No,
\nwe couldn’t
\nstay friends.<\/p>\n

Well, if it was you,
\nI turned around,
\nlooked for you –
\nwanted to say<\/p>\n

those were awfully
\nsoft sheets.<\/p>\n

Danny Earl Simmons is an Oregonian and a proud graduate of Corvallis High School. He is a friend of the Linn-Benton Community College Poetry Club and an active member of Albany Civic Theater.
