A Month in the Black Temple<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Are you a door?
\nI ask that, here.
\nWould you be?
\nOpen?
\n(No.)
\nYou’ve learned that much.
\nOpen?
\n(No, damn you).
\nHa, he is a key.
\nHe thinks we open for him.
\nThe thousand steps?
\nBlack and white.
\nHere, sunless, it isn’t photons,
\nWhatever the light is,
\nFrom everywhere.
\nI see him, the two eyes in the
\nMetal face
\nThat isn’t metal,
\nBut I call it that.
\nAre you a record?
\nWe read you here.
\n(They make me say that).
\nWe read you here,
\nVisitor,
\nVisitor without your card,
\nWe read you here,
\nIn the twilit day,
\nIn the white black night,
\nWe read you here,
\nIn our chess rooms,
\nYou can call them that,
\nChess rooms,
\nIt’s good enough for
\nGovernment work, that name!
\nFor you, anyway.
\nYou’ll never know our real names.
\nWhy would you?
\nWhy would you,
\nYou who open doors where
\nYou are not welcome?<\/p>\n

See here, the stars?
\nYou’ll fall a long time!
\nMy, my.
\nI must choose now.
\nWill you be a temple,
\nOr an atrophy?
\nWill you be a horror,
\nOr a mask?
\nI will have to ask the other
\nAspirants.<\/p>\n
