{"id":2257,"date":"2013-07-03T21:56:52","date_gmt":"2013-07-03T21:56:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fullofcrow.com\/poetry\/?page_id=2257"},"modified":"2013-07-03T21:56:52","modified_gmt":"2013-07-03T21:56:52","slug":"richard-schnap-july-2013","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.fullofcrow.com\/poetry\/archives\/richard-schnap-july-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Richard Schnap, July 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>FAT TUESDAY<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Do you remember the endless parades<br \/>\nPassing like themed dreams, \u201cThe Seven Wonders<br \/>\nOf the Ancient World\u201d, each float<br \/>\nA decorated hallucination from which<br \/>\nTokens sprung from the outstretched hands<br \/>\nOf masked men upon them, flashes<br \/>\nOf gold that resolved into coins<br \/>\nSpinning down to the torch-lit asphalt<br \/>\nWhere you\u2019d scramble to scoop them up<br \/>\nAs if they were the currency of the gods?<\/p>\n<p>But you knew it was only a brief spell<br \/>\nThat held everyone until the bell of penitence<br \/>\nSummoned the solemn finger of faith<br \/>\nTo smear ash on their unveiled foreheads.<br \/>\nEven the mossy trees seemed to bow<br \/>\nAnd pray, and the engraved disks<br \/>\nYou\u2019d coveted gave up their value,<br \/>\nBecoming just worthless souvenirs,<br \/>\nVague memories of a drunkard\u2019s dance<br \/>\nThat he himself could barely recall.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Richard Schnap is a poet, songwriter and collagist living in Pittsburgh,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Pennsylvania.
