\u00a0good housekeeping<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

to her
\nit isn’t strong
\nit isn’t stoic
\nit isn’t sensible<\/p>\n

to hold onto his jacket
\nhis flannel shirt
\nhis belt
\nhis cologne
\nor his memory<\/p>\n

that feeling of warmth
\nwhen i close my eyes
\nand i am holding him
\non a rainy day
\nand he is looking at me
\nwith the kind of overflowing love
\nonly a daddy can feel for his little girl<\/p>\n

suddenly we are there in the driveway
\nand i am eleven years old
\nand he pitches one into the zone
\nand i swing hard
\nthe unmistakable sound of wood hitting cork and leather
\ncoming straight for his chest
\nhis glove lifts and i’m out!
\nand for a second he\u2019s stunned
\nthen he grins and nods
\nand we call it a day<\/p>\n

how many\u00a0afternoons did we live free like that
\nmowing the lawn
\nfixing the car
\nplaying ball
\nsitting on the washing machine in the garage
\n…..<\/span>drinking his sugary sweet lemonade and shooting the breeze<\/p>\n

and all i wanted
\nat the last
\nwas to walk into his closet
\nand close my eyes
\ntake in a breath and smell his cologne
\nfeel his warmth
\n…..<\/span>and the fabric of his shirt against my cheek<\/p>\n

now wrapped securely in a box
\non its way to somewhere
\nto be put to good use she says
