Two Toothbrushes in a Cup<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You told me you wanted
\nTo sleep on the beach
\nSo your dreams would be better.<\/p>\n

I would like to believe
\nThe ocean waves would calm me,
\nSo I might sleep soundly with you,<\/p>\n

Our ankles touching, like those
\nTwo toothbrushes in the one cup
\nThat remind me of me and you.<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s hard for me to believe
\nAny one thing, even water,
\nCould always be good,<\/p>\n

Would never be bad.
\nWhen I was five, I nearly
\nDrowned, but I\u2019m always<\/p>\n

Thirsty (This you know,
\nYou complain of it often
\nEnough). Sometimes my mind<\/p>\n

Is a pile of spit, too complicated,
\nWrought of multitudes pulled
\nToo far, in too many directions.<\/p>\n

Other times, I feel my head
\nIs a translucent glass vase
\nWith an arrangement of<\/p>\n

Wild flowers, tamed
\nBy your kisses, by
\nYour graceful smile.<\/p>\n

And so my gray flowers
\nFed with sun and with rain
\nCan be drowned, and spring anew<\/p>\n

And flourish, for a time usually
\nShort, though occasionally long \u2014
\nThis whether my toes scrunch in sand<\/p>\n

Or find the stones they touch too
\nCold, and jerk back in fear \u2014
\nAs long as I know I have you.<\/p>\n
