holes in my shoes<\/p>\n

out of cigarettes<\/p>\n

and only a few coins left<\/p>\n

\n

trudge over to the store<\/p>\n

stack the change on the glossy counter<\/p>\n

the clerk is very accommodating<\/p>\n

counting the dimes and nickels<\/p>\n

the quarters have been gone for days<\/p>\n

and pennies are far too tragic<\/p>\n

for spending<\/p>\n

with no disdain<\/p>\n

but I hate her anyway<\/p>\n

especially when she quotes<\/p>\n

the final figure<\/p>\n

\u201clooks like you have \u2013pause- $6.45 sir\u201d<\/p>\n

the way she pauses is what does it<\/p>\n

like I didn\u2019t already count it<\/p>\n

as if she is enlightening me<\/p>\n

with her advanced grasp on mathematics<\/p>\n

\n

insane flashes of violence<\/p>\n

pulse through my mind<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

if I\u2019m using change<\/p>\n

I\u2019m obviously living in poverty<\/p>\n

and if I\u2019m living in poverty<\/p>\n

every nickel is certainly accounted for<\/p>\n

I know how much change I have<\/p>\n

\n

but I can\u2019t be angry with the clerk<\/p>\n

I\u2019m really just hungry<\/p>\n

and buying cigarettes instead of food<\/p>\n
