The World’s Largest Retail Owl<\/strong><\/p>\n

may have started
\nas a bowling alley.<\/p>\n

May have lost its B
\nin the riots.<\/p>\n

May have driven mother
\nand father mouse<\/p>\n

underground.
\nThe rest of us stand<\/p>\n

in line to buy
\nthe owl\u2019s packaged goo,<\/p>\n

the stuff that separates us
\nfrom our bones.<\/p>\n

The Bedside Book of Foreign Accents<\/strong><\/p>\n

With my name,
\nyou pollinated flowers.<\/p>\n

With my name you said, \u201cBend down.\u201d<\/p>\n

At any moment some impulsive
\nuse of words could have driven
\nus under ground:<\/p>\n

Je veux la fille avec les plus haute cheveux.<\/p>\n

So you wrote my name in the belly
\nof an origami horse.<\/p>\n

Sold my name and likeness
\nto a Scandinavian sperm bank.<\/p>\n

Then bought it back
\nat double the price.<\/p>\n

I had gained weight
\nand symbolically fathered millions.<\/p>\n

It was easier to get things done
\nwhen I smiled down from above.<\/p>\n

With my name, you teased your hair
\nand carried a package from store to store.<\/p>\n

When you pronounced my name,
\nyour accent slowed it down
\nand opened it up.<\/p>\n

Had I been the floor detective,
\nI would have let you
\nget away with murder.<\/p>\n

Watching TV Half-Asleep<\/strong><\/p>\n

The end of days and those
\nwho shuffle though it<\/p>\n

burn on dishwater.
\nThe June bug and June<\/p>\n

bride drink
\nfrom the same sink.<\/p>\n

They interrupt the same
\nchase scene:<\/p>\n

The private investigator
\nwould give his life<\/p>\n

for spotless spoons.
\nOn the other side<\/p>\n

of the glass, hearts beat,
\nmodesty\u2019s veil lifts,<\/p>\n

bodies stutter and vestigial
\ntails and wings need<\/p>\n

to be seen.
\nOr at least believed.<\/p>\n
