{"id":2751,"date":"2016-04-11T03:49:07","date_gmt":"2016-04-11T03:49:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fullofcrow.com\/poetry\/?page_id=2751"},"modified":"2016-04-13T02:14:25","modified_gmt":"2016-04-13T02:14:25","slug":"kai-coggin-april-2015","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.fullofcrow.com\/poetry\/archives\/kai-coggin-april-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Kai Coggin, April 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u2318 Deja Vu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Deja vu, from the French \u201calready seen\u201d<br \/>\nis a strange phenomenon.<br \/>\nA deja vu just unfolded in front of me,<br \/>\na slow motion wormhole of a moment<br \/>\ncollapsing in on itself before my eyes, implosion.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as I said to myself,<br \/>\n\u201cI\u2019m having a deja vu,\u201d it started to dematerialize,<br \/>\ndeconstruct itself into another moment,<br \/>\nrelease its hold of illusion on time and space<br \/>\nand fold itself back into this seeming reality in which I<br \/>\nwake up and write poems into the white space of cyberia.<\/p>\n<p>The scattered objects on my desk,<br \/>\ndog-eared poetry books,<br \/>\na blinking light,<br \/>\nmore poetry books,<br \/>\nenvelopes holding letters,<br \/>\nuncapped pens,<br \/>\na wilting orchid plant,<br \/>\nmy eye movement on computer screen,<br \/>\nthe cold of morning radiating off the window next to me,<br \/>\nfrozen hands pounding out keys, joining words,<br \/>\nas I start another poem,<br \/>\nand there it was,<br \/>\na deja vu,<br \/>\na split second of life on repeat,<br \/>\nthe intersection of short-term and long-term memory,<br \/>\na moment that I have had before,<br \/>\nor a moment that I have dreamed of having.<\/p>\n<p>Deja vu is a vacuum,<br \/>\nit is time and space trying to catch up with itself,<br \/>\nit is circular truth trapped in linear enforcement,<br \/>\nit is prophecy and permission unveiled,<br \/>\nit is glimpsing deeper in unraveling,<br \/>\nit is peering from out of body, seeing as Soul,<br \/>\nit is consciousness that remains nameless,<br \/>\nbut we have all felt it, haven\u2019t we?<\/p>\n<p>When a moment unfolds and shakes you from the numbness,<\/p>\n<p>and you know you have been here before,<\/p>\n<p>you know, for a moment, you are where you should be.<br \/>\n<strong>\u2318 Are you flirting with me?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If I answered your question truthfully,<br \/>\n\u201care you flirting with me?\u201d<br \/>\nI would tell you how I have already turned<br \/>\nyour bottom lip into a poem a hundred times,<br \/>\nshaped your chin into a place to rest my kisses<br \/>\nand taken your hands into my steeple,<br \/>\nmake a prayer out of me,<br \/>\nturn me inside out and holy underneath your touch.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I am flirting with you.<br \/>\nYes, I am trying to make you see<br \/>\nwithout seeing that I have loved you<br \/>\nfor more days than I can remember to count.<br \/>\nA thousand times I think of you,<br \/>\nwhisper your name into the quiet space,<br \/>\nthat is the invisibility of this desire,<br \/>\nthat is the longing that stays with me,<br \/>\nbut is barely opening up to you,<br \/>\nbecause I have taken the time,<br \/>\nI have paced this wanting,<br \/>\nI have formed this yearning out of lust and air,<br \/>\nand now it is a real, breathing thing,<br \/>\nyour body, almost the trembling ground<br \/>\nI can maneuver with my fingers,<br \/>\nyour voice, that answers back and asks,<br \/>\n\u201care you flirting with me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So much more,<br \/>\nso much more than flirting,<br \/>\nI am flirting with danger, with uncertainty,<br \/>\nwith a growing hope swelling in my chest,<br \/>\nto think that we could make a fire out of our willing bodies,<br \/>\nout of our vacant mouths howling for a lover<br \/>\nwe have yet to know in each other,<br \/>\nmy untethered heart<br \/>\nis moving toward the fencepost of your standing<br \/>\nup for something as beautiful as this.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, I am flirting with you.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Kai Coggin is a poet and author living on the side of a small mountain in Hot Springs, AR. She holds a BA in Poetry and Creative Writing from Texas A &amp; M University.
