Will<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

If not for the jinx of death\u2019s avatar<\/p>\n

& willies throwing jabs & nescience<\/p>\n

at clamant beaus bartering impossibilities.<\/p>\n

i would have tailed the spring of immortality<\/p>\n

& sipped from its overflow within a camel\u2019s breath.<\/p>\n

& like Methuselah. i would have beaten<\/p>\n

time\u2019s juggernaut & died like a god,<\/p>\n

edified & eulogized in scriptures & songs.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Shadows & Rusts<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

how many times will i bleed grief<\/p>\n

& throes into the mouth of this page?<\/p>\n

how many times?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

our dreams are on rags,<\/p>\n

eating crumbs tossed to us by winds,<\/p>\n

like madmen without homes<\/p>\n

like flowers disrobed of its petals of honor<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

flickers of woes<\/p>\n

dance on the stools of our shrines<\/p>\n

& gods spit in the basket of our offerings<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

we are doomed<\/p>\n

yeah! we are doomed<\/p>\n

like the wimps that will sniff<\/p>\n

the blood & fiery of armageddon<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

but we will rise<\/p>\n

yeah! we will rise<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

above pain<\/p>\n

above death<\/p>\n

above shadows & sores<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Answers<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

these spineless tears dripping from the eyes<\/p>\n

of orphans trembling on the shore of time.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

these lungs that reek of histories, battling to be told.<\/p>\n

are knives that pierce the sinews of our peace<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

they are streams of blood drowning the silence<\/p>\n

of our breath. once, i asked where & what is the<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

antidote of pain? i was told it is the antithesis of war.<\/p>\n

perhaps, in the eye of a toddler? & its name is love. they lied.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Ajise Vincent is a Nigerian Poet. His poem \u201cSong of a Progeny\u201d was a shortlisted poem at the Korea-Nigeria Poetry feast, 2015.
