Slow Change<\/strong><\/p>\n

Disruption to the public good
\ncourtesy of nature,
\nflood, hurricane, earthquake,
\ntries the spirits of the survivors
\nwho endure inflictions
\nand rebuild their lives.
\nThis pattern of existence
\napplied to life
\nuntil man evolved
\nforming tribes, cities, nations,
\nwhen humanity produced
\nenough ills to compete
\nwith natural destruction,
\nforever altering
\nthe balance of things.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Error of Our Ways<\/strong><\/p>\n

The merchant\u2019s way
\nhas become more important
\nthan the warrior’s way,
\nreplacing the battlefield
\nwith money market yield,
\nexcept when profit summons
\nthe dogs of war
\nto fight, bleed, die,
\nfor greater earnings
\nin a system gone astray
\nthat does not value wisdom\u2019s way.<\/p>\n

The Path of Decay<\/strong><\/p>\n

My country,
\nland of abundance,
\nonce produced enough
\nto feed, house, fuel the world,
\nuntil capitalism
\nrefused the concept of share,
\nseekers of profit
\nalways wanting more
\nimmune to the needs of others,
\ndedicated to acquisition
\nof pleasures and treasures
\nconsuming so much
\nthe deprived are legions.
\nThe air and water
\nmay be approaching toxic
\nfor mankind planet bound
\nwithout an exit plan,
\nwho must hope to endure,
\nwhile the few revel,
\ndevouring tomorrows.<\/p>\n

Gary Beck has spent most of his adult life as a theater director, and as an art dealer when he couldn\u2019t make a living in theater.
