After All<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

How
\nafter all
\nthat’s happened
\nflies
\nstill fly
\nwindows<\/span><\/p>\n

be damned
\nbirds nest
\ndo<\/span><\/p>\n

we still have
\nthe shade<\/span><\/p>\n

of our shadow
\nto keep us cool?<\/span><\/p>\n


\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Doubt<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n


\n<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Oh, the certainty<\/span><\/p>\n

with which we speak
\nabout Kabul and bailouts.<\/span><\/p>\n

Oh, the certainty
\nwith which
\nmaps unroll waves
\ncurl under leave<\/span><\/p>\n

words gasping
\nfor new words<\/span><\/p>\n

should
\nshould
\nnot saltwater
\nin our mouth.<\/span><\/p>\n


\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Go Not With God, But With The Handy<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n


\n<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Go with
\nsoap<\/span><\/p>\n

warm water.
\nGo with<\/span><\/p>\n

a spoon.<\/span><\/p>\n

With<\/span><\/p>\n

shoes. With a chair.<\/span><\/p>\n

Beer.
\nBooks. Bricks. A band-aid.<\/span><\/p>\n

Go
\nwith
\npenpaper.<\/span><\/p>\n

With
\nmemories<\/span><\/p>\n

riddles
\na rhyme.<\/span><\/p>\n

With two oars.<\/span><\/p>\n

Go with
\ncandle.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dry
\nmatches.<\/span><\/p>\n


\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Pep Talk<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n


\n<\/span><\/p>\n

I accomplish things.<\/span><\/p>\n

I fill bottles with water
\nwash starch from rice
\nspin lettuce sometimes
\nspinach
\nto help it dry.<\/span><\/p>\n

I slice a thin piece of cheese
\nput it on a cracker.
\nFeed it to my wife
\nwho is doing three things
\nat once
\nI am learning
\nher seconds are longer than mine.<\/span><\/p>\n

I boil water
\nturn tofu so it won\u2019t burn.
\nI fold the damp dishtowel
\ntuck it into the oven\u2019s handle
\nthankful for the work
\nthe leftover heat
\nfrom the oven will do.<\/span><\/p>\n

I lock the door.
\nCheck the stove
\nturn off lights
\nas cobwebs form<\/span><\/p>\n

dust gathers dust
\nI am learning
\nwhat Argentine ants know<\/span><\/p>\n

nothing stops
\nother things
\nfrom happening.<\/span><\/p>\n
