<\/strong>If you spoke firefly
\nflicked a remorse code
\non and off like a
\nleaf-tongue leaning
\nto the changing breeze<\/p>\n

The fluencies implicit
\nin paced pentets
\ndouble pulses
\nseparated by three<\/p>\n

Rounds of darkness the
\nflashes bleating
\nlike skipped
\nheartbeats as you calyxed
\nclose to the node, the
\nconfluence held<\/p>\n

If you spoke firefly
\ncame down
\nlike pyractomena angulata
\nin a flickering orange rain
\non the skin of darkness<\/p>\n

A call and response threading
\nthe domain of otherwise
\ninvisible lovers whose
\ndesire reaped visceral<\/p>\n

Victuals, coiled
\nnuptial gifts glowing
\non their bellies, harbingers
\nof many joysorrows bundled
\nlike hurried bedding
\nas they fled
\ninto themselves<\/p>\n

If you spoke firefly
\nwould I be
\na lapsed
\nsynapse lost
\nlike a shoelace in
\nthe singing gardens of night?<\/p>\n

Sophia Pandeya\u2019s work straddles many divides of politics, religion, ethnicity, geography and culture. Born in Karachi, Pakistan to Shia and Sunni parents of ethnically Indian descent, she left Pakistan in 1986 in pursuit of greater artistic freedom. After living and working for two and a half years in Thailand, she migrated to the US in 1988 eventually receiving political asylum. In 1990 she met and eventually married Raam Pandeya an Indian American journalist and practitioner of Kayakalpa, an Indian healing art which she now also practices. Sophia\u2018s writing and art has been published in a print anthology, Spilled Ink, published 2000 by Premiere Generation Ink and online magazines such as Monsoon and Premiere Generation Ink online.
