Noah<\/strong> is <em>Full of Crow\u2019s<\/em> Featured Poet for September.\u00a0 In line with old traditions, Stanley sent his poems my way via carrier pigeon.\u00a0 It was a treat to experience his rich visual images and textured voice on paper\u2026.real paper.\u00a0 Stanley\u2019s work delves in somber meanderings of the heart that feel crisp like an autumn morning.\u00a0 His words provide an internal place to ponder how lucky you are in this lifetime.\u00a0 It is my humble honor to present to you four wonderful poems by Stanley M. Noah.<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #999999;\">Aleathia Drehmer, Poetry Editor<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Far From Home In Time And Place<br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Stanley M. Noah, September\u00a0Featured Poet, 2009<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>Late evenings<br \/>\nwe often spent ourselves on the front porch<br \/>\nin the white swing\u2014onward swinging.<\/p>\n<p>And would<br \/>\nsay hi to those walking by, and waving<br \/>\nto cars speeding by as if before<\/p>\n<p>a wreck<br \/>\nto tell us their goodbyes; and<br \/>\nonward swinging we watched<\/p>\n<p>the sun<br \/>\nmaking hay in the blue fields,<br \/>\nthe magical color of sugar beets,<\/p>\n<p>and patterns<br \/>\nof dust-brown sparrows looking up for<br \/>\nredtail hawks, looking down for green grain.<\/p>\n<p>But soon<br \/>\nall shadows had begun to grow<br \/>\nthin and taller as they walked away<\/p>\n<p>into another<br \/>\npink horizon. Quickly it was time to<br \/>\nwash up, take away one barnyard rooster,<\/p>\n<p>make supper,<br \/>\nrice with red beans. And onward into<br \/>\nmidnight we would listen to radio dreams.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Full Moon Through My Window and Across<br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Stanley M. Noah, September\u00a0Featured Poet, 2009<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>It\u2019s the grayness of perfection on white like in<br \/>\nfilm noir. A wall, a floor of shadows expressing<br \/>\nedges of realities, hidden. Yet, a visual still-stone<\/p>\n<p>forms a haunting. Nothing feels to be moving except<br \/>\nsilence in a vacuum. It\u2019s the hour when the ground<br \/>\nreleases heat absorbed during a long summer\u2019s day.<\/p>\n<p>My cigarette smoke rises like a burning cinnamon<br \/>\nstick from here to the lamp and joins a moth. And<br \/>\nfrom my window I can see how the moon got here<\/p>\n<p>and the stars are still trying to find their way. My<br \/>\ntilted cat sleeping on the slanted roof hopes to be a<br \/>\nhuman someday if the landscape will have her. Not<\/p>\n<p>far away I can hear a sliver of cars migrating. I can<br \/>\nhear my next door friend playing a piano sonata by<br \/>\nBrahms; and hear and see things Brahms never could\u2014<\/p>\n<p>all of this: the sensuous aroma of the hour, the past<br \/>\nand the present running toward each other as if trying<br \/>\nto catch up with the future.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Steep Cliffs<br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Stanley M. Noah, September Featured Poet, 2009<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>I have fallen<br \/>\nshort of myself.<\/p>\n<p>Not in perception of,<br \/>\nor conception, nor invention<\/p>\n<p>of putting together<br \/>\na cultured life<\/p>\n<p>with meaningful endings.<br \/>\nBut rather<\/p>\n<p>it has been blinding technicalities<br \/>\nthat tilt me far downward,<\/p>\n<p>tripping me up, until<br \/>\nall that\u2019s left<\/p>\n<p>are piles of causations:<br \/>\nthose false ideas dancing<\/p>\n<p>from my aching mouth<br \/>\nlike blue mist and confetti.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Any Beach Is A Meandering Place<br \/>\n<em><span style=\"color: #888888;\">Stanley M. Noah, September Featured Poet, 2009<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong>You said<br \/>\nstand there and look in all<br \/>\ndirections. You shall see the<br \/>\ninventory of your existence,<br \/>\nnaked in the white ink line<br \/>\nwhere mind finds a leisure space,<br \/>\nsomething like a self-rescue you<br \/>\nthought could never happen.<\/p>\n<p>You said<br \/>\nlisten and you shall hear all<br \/>\nvoices and sounds ever made<br \/>\nthroughout nature and human<br \/>\nhistory. It will not overwhelm<br \/>\nbut overlap you.<\/p>\n<p>You said<br \/>\ntake in all the air into your lungs<br \/>\nand you shall know the far ends<br \/>\nand depth of our universe. But<br \/>\nonly for a second and that will be<br \/>\nenough.<\/p>\n<p>You said<br \/>\ncome to the beach at night and maybe<br \/>\nyou shall learn secrets of knowledge<br \/>\nhidden from you during another day.<br \/>\nYou will discover the extension of<br \/>\nyour imagination.<\/p>\n<p>You said<br \/>\ngently walk the beach, stop, look back<br \/>\nand you shall know the early maps<br \/>\nhumanity traveled. Now the beach and<br \/>\nyou are like close friends collecting sea<br \/>\nshells.<\/p>\n<p>You said<br \/>\nhold sand in your hand and you shall<br \/>\nrecognize the weight of your own life<br \/>\nwithin the world, alone, as this is the<br \/>\ncomplexity that got your importance here.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Stanley M. Noah has a BGS degree from The University of Texas at Dallas.\u00a0 He has been published in Poesy, Old Red Kimono, Nexus, Poetry Nottingham, Main Street Rag, Iota, The South Carolina Review, Art Times, Eclectica.org and other publications in the U.S.A., Britain, Canada, New Zealand and India.\u00a0 He was the winner of The Mississippi Valley Poetry Contest&#8217;s humorous category in 2006.\u00a0 He spends much of his time watching old movies and visiting neon cafes late into the night drinking gallons of coffee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stanley M.
