Star-glistened skin listening, she steps,
\ntadpole-tickled toes touching seaweed
\nmud-sunken under foot,<\/p>\n

rippling the green pond\u2019s deepening dream,
\nuubuttoning belly-buttoned memories,
\nplacental-rustling bullrush cattails,<\/p>\n

opening flood gates, swirling amniotic music,
\nawakening blue-river vena cava eddies,
\naorta-whooshing like a chorus of life:<\/p>\n

sentient sentient sentient<\/p>\n

Unrequited<\/h3>\n

Don Pesavento<\/a>, July 2009<\/a><\/h5>\n

a bull’s-eye at which many
\neyes have thrown darts of love
\nand always missed their mark<\/p>\n

a moving target only a marksman
\ncan scope in the cross-hairs
\nof his rifle which misfires<\/p>\n

an object of desire just beyond
\nreach, a grail from which
\nyour lips will never drink<\/p>\n

a treasure map X that marks her
\nphantom island, off which you drift
\nlike a ship without a sail<\/p>\n

a big-game trophy which turns
\non you, the hunted, wounded
