TIDE-LINE<\/strong><\/p>\n

an arbutus tree leans
\nits long arch
\nover the sombre march of water
\nup\u00a0 \u00a0 and\u00a0 \u00a0 down the beach
\nbreaking shells
\nwearing on rock
\nlapping my bare feet
\nwith the insistence
\nof a heart-beat<\/p>\n

through half-closed eyes
\nI watch waves leave
\nsea lettuce<\/span>, kelp
\nand human debris
\nstrewn like bodies after battle
\nscabs sealed by sun and hours
\nwhile the water
\nmoves up\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0and\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0back
\nin continual chase
\nof tossed seaweed
\nand forgotten names<\/p>\n

THE WRAITH<\/strong><\/p>\n

dips its head
\npecks
\ntakes a fold
\nof skin
\nand pulls<\/p>\n

shakes me
\ninto awareness
\nof pain
\nof being alive<\/p>\n

then lets go<\/p>\n
