Double Life<\/strong><\/p>\n

Every morning, even before I open
\nMy eyes, the little doors of the cage
\nMy crow cannot wait to flutter out
\nInto the light-washed heavens
\nStriking its shadowy wings into beating<\/p>\n

Every night, even after I put
\nThe cage back inside my cozy house
\nThe bird still glides close to the moon
\nWith its wings feathered with spirits
\nForgetting to return home<\/p>\n

Sometimes I wonder why
\nDay after day, night after night
\nIt refuses to settle softly in its cage
\nLike a domesticated parrot<\/p>\n

Were I it, would I?<\/p>\n

Or you, once the cage broken
\nWould the bird return
\nCoo itself into sleep, dreaming<\/p>\n

Of celestial freedom?<\/p>\n

Another Snapshot<\/strong><\/p>\n

A man is searching everywhere
\nAt dusk
\nWith a leash
\nUnleashed in his hand
\nWhile the dog hides itself beyond a fence<\/p>\n

We grin from ear to ear
\nAt our shared secret<\/p>\n

Charon<\/strong><\/p>\n

You may well hate him
\nBut you cannot help feeling envious-
\nThat business of carrying the diseased
\nAcross the River Styx is ever so prosperous
\nThe only monopoly in the entire universe
\nThat has a market share
\nLarger than the market itself<\/p>\n

Daydreaming, on this side
\nOf the river, how you might wish
\nTo be an entrepreneur like Charon
\nA success American dreamer<\/p>\n
