Stylistic Signatures for a 2×2 Card<\/strong><\/p>\n

Blue short-sleeve strutting<\/p>\n

A blue leash for a dog on steroids-<\/p>\n

Borrowed blue work gloves for polished<\/p>\n

Grass push-ups, a barrier between the<\/p>\n

Grass that scratches raw.<\/p>\n

Burnt skin sizzling, count the blades<\/p>\n

By the green patches, green then brown<\/p>\n

Green then brown, green then\u2014<\/p>\n

Heel bone splinting concrete paths leading<\/p>\n

To another wadding through a diagetic world.<\/p>\n

And once again, it is eight am.<\/p>\n

The bed door is open. The front door is open.<\/p>\n

The gate is open. The leash and the dog<\/p>\n

Are missing\u2014<\/p>\n

Sitting in an Indian styled pretzel formation,<\/p>\n

She accidentally writes.<\/p>\n

And once again, the dog leapt stair, by stair,<\/p>\n

By stair, followed by a sharp corner to a<\/p>\n

Closed door, Pavlovian spit dripping down<\/p>\n

The wood paneling on the entrance into<\/p>\n

A family home.<\/p>\n

And for once, the windows were open.<\/p>\n

The white morning sun on the white walls.<\/p>\n

The white carpet, a white note, an apology\u2014<\/p>\n

I love you<\/em>, a signature,<\/p>\n

All followed promptly by a date<\/p>\n

And a time, reeves of bright spring flowers<\/p>\n

And two-by-two white cards\u2014<\/p>\n

Piously forgiving the typicality of being typical,<\/p>\n

Harsh C-notes, the bountiful D-notes<\/p>\n

Of sympathy gone wrong.<\/p>\n

And once again, an apology, and an apology,<\/p>\n

And an apology.<\/p>\n

Saturday Evening<\/strong><\/p>\n

Half worn dress puckered<\/p>\n

At the shoulders\u2014her family<\/p>\n

Glaring at the television,<\/p>\n

Tipping heads to detergent jingles\u2014<\/p>\n

An open, flat hand through the<\/p>\n

Hair\u2014strike of a dry blade\u2014<\/p>\n

Her youngest brother is waiting<\/p>\n

In the hallway, donning a superman<\/p>\n

Sweat suit and sixty pounds of<\/p>\n

Excess weight, he says that<\/p>\n

If I could be anything, I would be<\/em><\/p>\n

Strong, a hero.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/em><\/p>\n

He slides a comic book from under<\/p>\n

A worn rug, splitting seams from<\/p>\n

Foot pressure\u2014he tears the coupons<\/p>\n

And delicately covers holes in the<\/p>\n

Floor to stop the roaches from eating<\/p>\n

The remaining pages, he says that<\/p>\n

I wouldn\u2019t worry about death<\/em><\/p>\n

Dying is just a quality of the air.<\/em><\/p>\n

<\/em><\/p>\n

The dress nipping at a hidden tattoo,<\/p>\n

A tribal something\u2014she revealed true<\/p>\n

Rebellion and stayed the night in a<\/p>\n

Different bed\u2014her brother, sitting in<\/p>\n

The hallway, hugged paper\u2014kissed the future.<\/p>\n
